Contracts & Courier Contracts

EVE New Player KnowledgePublicUpdated 2026-08-24 11:04:18
Quick Answer

Contracts move items or ISK between pilots outside the normal market. Courier contracts package cargo for delivery and use collateral to protect the owner if the package is not delivered.

Item Exchange contracts are commonly used to trade specific items for ISK or give items to another pilot. Courier contracts create a package that a hauler accepts and must deliver to the destination. The reward is what the hauler earns; collateral is what the hauler risks if the contract fails. Contract availability can be public, private to a character, corporation, or other allowed entity depending on the contract type. Always verify destination, reward, collateral, expiration, and completion time before accepting or issuing a courier contract.

New Pilot Guidance

Collateral is not an extra hauling fee. It is security. If you accept a courier contract with collateral, you need enough ISK available to cover it, and you can lose that collateral if the contract fails. Never accept a package you cannot safely move or afford to collateralize.
