Wormholes: Connections, Polarization & No Normal Local

EVE New Player KnowledgePublicUpdated 2026-08-24 11:04:18
Quick Answer

Wormholes are temporary connections with limited mass and lifetime. Local chat does not work like normal known-space local, so d-scan and probes become critical.

Wormholes connect systems without normal stargates. Connections have a remaining lifetime and a mass limit that changes as ships pass through. Always bookmark the entrance before leaving it. Wormhole residents and hunters rely heavily on d-scan, combat probes, cloaks, and bookmarks because the normal local member list does not provide the same warning as known space. Some wormhole effects change ship performance, and many sites contain dangerous NPCs.

New Pilot Guidance

Your first wormhole rule: bookmark the hole before you move away from it. Your second: carry probes if your ship can use them. Getting stranded because you forgot the entrance is a classic EVE lesson.
