Mining Basics: Ore, Lasers, Holds & Safety
Mining means locking an asteroid, activating a mining laser or strip miner, and moving the ore into a hold or fleet workflow. The real skill is doing it efficiently without ignoring safety.
Mining ships differ in yield, ore hold size, tank, mobility, and fleet role. Survey scanners can help estimate remaining ore. In corporation fleets you may also have compression, boosts, hauling, shared ore rules, taxes, or payout tracking. High-sec mining can still be attacked, while low-sec, null-sec, and wormhole mining require much stronger awareness. Aligning, watching local, using d-scan where appropriate, and knowing where to dock or tether are part of mining just as much as the lasers.
New Pilot Guidance
Do not spend your entire wallet on a mining hull because it has a bigger yield number. A ship you can replace comfortably is usually the better learning ship. Join corporation mining fleets when possible so you can learn boosts, hauling, payout, and safety procedures with other pilots.
